Plasma Protein Concentration after Haemorrhage

Abstract
In expts. on cats, anesthetized with nembutal, there is evidence of movement of plasma proteins into the blood stream within 2 hrs. after hemorrhage. Blood or plasma transfusions after hemorrhage are followed by movement of plasma protein out of the circulation within 1 hr. after transfusion. The plasma protein conc. at any time after hemorrhage (provided no protein food has been taken) is probably dependent on the plasma protein stores outside the circulation. The effects of hemorrhage on Hb and plasma protein concn. in man are compiled in a table from published (1941) and unpublished data supplied by Drs. Wallace and Scharpey-Schafer. A method of testing the adequacy, or otherwise, of plasma protein stores is suggested.
