Abstract
The endocrine factors influencing the development of pelvic tumors were reviewed. Application of the Papanicolaou method for the diagnosis of malignant tumors in 418 patients gave the following results: Of 59 patients with cancer of the uterus, 41 or 70% gave correct positive smears; 17 or 28% gave false negatives; and 1 or 2% gave doubtful smears. Of 359 patients who did not have cancer, 4 or 1.1% gave false positive; and 5 or 1.4% gave doubtful smears. Keywords
