Abstract
The AN/DMQ-9 rocketsonde is an expendable meteorological instrument package designed for use with the Arcas rocket vehicle to obtain vertical profiles of temperature and winds in the upper atmosphere between 80,000 feet and 200,000 feet. The instrument is of the transponder type and is compatible with the AN/GMD-2 Rawin Set ground equipment. The purpose of this effort was to up-grade the existing design to provide for improved flight performance and ease of handling in the field. Flight tests conducted at the Air Force Eastern Test Range, Cape Kennedy, Florida indicate that the resulting instrument package is suitable for field use when the Rawin Set is supplemented with a parametric amplifier.
