Pyroelectric properties of flexible PZT composites

Abstract
The pyroelectric properties of flexible composite ceramics made from a mixture of niobium doped lead zirconate lead titanate particles and silicone rubber are reported. These are then compared to a conventional dense piezoelectric ceramic. The pyroelectric coefficients were determined to be 0.6 to 2.0 × 10−2 vs 4.9 × 10−8 coul/cm2°C for the dense PZT ceramics. The pyroelectric response of the flexible composites were about five times greater than the dense ceramic. A method is described for manipulating the pyroelectric coefficient and response of these materials.
