Nicotinic and muscarinic property of ACh receptors on cultured brain stem neurons.

Abstract
Using cultures of dissociated neurons from the lower brain stem of rat embryos, the receptor properties of cholinoceptive neurons were examined pharmacologically [d-tubocurarine, atropine, hexamethonium]. Of 89 neurons, 41 showed facilitation of unit discharges by the application of acetylcholine. These cholinoceptive neurons had both nicotinic and muscarinic properties.
