The synthesis and spectroscopic identification of [(η5-C5H5)Re(N2)3] and [(η5-C5H5)Re(CO)(N2)2] in supercritical xenon at room temperature and in N2matrices at 20 K

Abstract
U.v. photolysis of [(cp)Re(CO)3](cp =η5-cyclopentadienyl) in either supercritical xenon heavily doped with N2 or in solid N2 matrices at 20 K leads to stepwise substitution of CO by N2 and formation of [(cp)Re(CO)3–x(N2)x] species (x= 1–3), all of which have been characterized by i.r. spectroscopy and 15N2 substitution; [(cp)Re(CO)(N2)2] is stable at room temperature.
