Abstract
In dogs changes in cardiac output, systemic blood pressure venous pressure and systemic vascular resistance following acute obstruction of the portal vein or inferior vena cava above and below the veins have been compared. With portal vein occlusion there is a more profound fall in cardiac output and systemic blood pressure but the rise in venous pressure and resistance are the same. When histamine was infused into the drainage bed of the inferior vena cava the differences following occlusion were smaller but still significant. Occlusion of the portal venous bed seems to cause release of a vasoactive substance. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
