Abstract
The softening on annealing after work hardening and the creep have been studied in a dispersion–strengthened Al–Si alloy. The softening rate is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the particle size. The stationary creep rate is found to depend linearly on applied stress and it also proportional to the inverse fourth power of the particle size. Those observations are in agreement with calculations based on an analysis of the Orowan loop climb process through dislocation pipe diffusion. The activation energy of the pipe diffusion is determined to be ∼ 0·54 eV.Keywords
