Abstract
The incubation of fresh thoracic duct lymph alone at 37[degree]C did not affect the endogenous lymph cholesterol partition. Lymph also failed to give esterification of added cholesterol, when included alone in physiological saline, or as an aqueous emulsion with oleic acid and sodium taurocholate. Similarly, there was no hydrolysis of added cholesterol oleate, with or without sodium taurocholate inclusion. Adjustment of the pH of the lymph incubation mixtures to 6.6 for hydrolysis studies, or 6.2 for esterification studies did not give synthesis or hydrolysis of esterified cholesterol. From these studies, it is evident that rat thoracic duct lymph does not possess either synthetic or hydrolytic cholesterol esterase activity. Keywords
