Abstract
Introduction The present paper is an introduction to a study of the so-called female remedies, drugs which have had more or less extensive clinical use, but which have not been subjects of thorough pharmacologic or clinical study. Judging from the large number of preparations of a proprietary or "patent" nature containing one or more of these drugs that are on the market at present, we must regard them as still extensively used. The purpose of the investigation was to determine whether any of the group possessed actions that could be referred to the uterus. In this paper are presented their actions or lack of action on strips of the excised uterus of the guinea-pig. The method has certain limitations.
