Abstract
The ECG of 36 patients with aortic stenosis, 47 patients with aortic coarctation, and 14 patients with aortic incompetence are compared with age, the left ventricular systolic pressure, the pressure gradient over the aortic valves, the degree of aortic regurgitation, and in aortic incompetence with the heart enlargement. The ECG at rest, during and after work is found not to be an appropiate indicator of the degree of left ventricular hypertrophy. The theory of a different ECG pattern in left ventricular systolic overloading compared with left ventricular diastolic overloading cannot be verified.
