Time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy applied to anthraquinone photochemistry

Abstract
Sulphonated anthraquinone derivatives have been studied using time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy. Pump and probe experiments using an excimer/excimer-pumped dye laser system with multichannel detection have given transient spectra which differ greatly from those observed in the ground-state molecules. Variation of the time delay between the pump and probe lasers, the probe laser wavelength and the chemical conditions of the sample has allowed the observation of several spectra which can be correlated with transient species observed using transient absorption spectroscopy.
