Antibodies to Strychnine

Abstract
Summary: Antibodies specific for strychnine were obtained from rabbits injected with mono-aminostrychnine-azohemocyanin. Precipitation with caseinazostrychnine was inhibited by the alkaloid and some of its amino, nitro, and methoxyl derivatives, but not by morphine, quinine, etc., or even by tryptophane, which like strychnine, contains the indol nucleus. The sera were too weak (0.05 mg ab-N/ml) to neutralize the lethal effect of strychnine in mice. A failure to produce antimorphine is recorded. Various aspects of the general topic are discussed.
