Abstract
The Carboniferous insects of the Commentry Basin, France, have not been adequately described. This is the 1st of a series of papers in which the insect fauna is redescribed; the descriptions are based on examination of the collection in the Museum d''His-toire Naturelle, Paris. Part I deals with 3 families 1) the Protagriidae, here removed from the Protodonata and placed in the order Palaeodictyoptera; 2) the Meganeuridae, regarded as typical Protodonata; and 3) the Campylopteridae, tentatively assigned to the new suborder CAMPYLOPTEROI-DEA of the Megasecoptera. The wing and body structure of the members of these families is described and discussed in detail. Protagrion audouini*, Meganeura monyi*, Megan-eurula selysii*, M. titana*, and Campyloptera eatoni* are included, with synonymy. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
