Abstract
The variable phase approach to scattering theory has been used to construct pseudopotentials from Li+, Na+ and K+ potentials in a similar manner to Pendry's qualitative discussion of the pseudopotential cancellation theorem. The results demonstrate that energy independent, local pseudopotentials should be adequate for the calculation of most alkali metal properties. Keywords
