Brucella melitensis, the species of Brucella with usual source in goat and sheep, is now known to occur endemically in Iowa. The present report, based on laboratory findings and epidemiologic investigations, presents data referable to 20 cases of brucellosis diagnosed in Iowa during the past two years and found to be caused by the caprine strain of brucella, Br. melitensis.
