Abstract
Analysis of 26 genetic loci [for enzyme alleles] by horizontal starch gel electrophoresis was performed on 197 pikas [Ochotona princeps] from 1 Montana [USA] and 4 Colorado [USA] populations. Only 4 loci were polymorphic within populations and individual heterozygosity was low for a mammal (.hivin.H = 1.1%). The Montana and Colorado populations were fixed for alternate alleles at 3 loci. Because of the insular nature of pika habitat, drift is probably important in determining low heterozygosities and genetic similarities measured between widely separated pika populations. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
