Abstract
A gas chromatographic method for the separation and determination of carbonyl compounds as their 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones is presented. The method represents a modified version of existing techniques which are prone to thermal decomposition and hence are not amenable to accurate quantitative work. The precision and linearity of detector response has been improved in the method presented indicating that thermal decomposition of the samples was decreased. Application of the method for the determination of carbonyl compounds in auto exhaust is described briefly.
