Abstract
The DKB strain of E. histolytica, cultured monobacterially with Escherichia coli. was used as test organism. The method of measuring esterase activity was by incubation of ameba lysates with methyl n-butyrate. Hydrolysis was determined by subsequent titration of the test mixtures to pH 6.5 with 0.05 [image] HCl. Controls were run for possible activity of the bacterial flora and for pH shifts due to residual rice starch present. Tabulation is made of the results of 8 experiments. Acid was produced, indicating esterase activity, in significantly greater quantities by the ameba lysates than by any of the controls. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
