Reisolation of Sarcinomyces inkin and Its Transfer to the Genus Trichosporon

Abstract
A description of the morphological and physiological characteristics of a yeast culture isolated in 1957 from a case of tinea cruris caused by Trichophyton tonsurans Malmsten in a Portugese woman about 50 years old is presented. This isolate is identified with Sarcinomyces inkin Oho. The taxonomic position of S. inkin is discussed. S. inkin is transferred to the genus Trichosporon. The isolate studied by the authors is proposed as the neotype of Trichosporon inkin (Sarcinomyces inkin Oho). I. inkin is considered to be physiolgically near to I. cutaneum but very distinct morphologically. The authors point out that the significance of the presence of I. inkin in the skin lesion from which they isolated their culture is not clear due to its association with the pathogen Trichophyton tonsurans.
