Abstract
To the editor: In the January 1977 issue, two of us (John Jacobs and James Strain) (1) reported the development and testing of the Cognitive Capacity Screening Examination designed to quickly identify diffuse organic mental syndromes in hospitalized medical patients. In the original study, a score of 19 or less correct responses out of 30 questions was taken as indicating the presence of significant cognitive deficits. In that study, 10 of a group of 69 consecutively admitted medical patients had received electroencepholograms (EEG) during their hospitalization.
