Abstract
The article presents information on a study which examined organizational policy correlates that may affect the consequences of employee absenteeism. The authors investigate causes of absenteeism and how various job characteristics affect absenteeism, specifically organization size, job satisfaction, turnover, personality variables, and employee age. Information was collected from 29 west coast transportation organizations. The results showed that organizations that pay operators a higher rate, allow sick benefits to accumulate at a faster rate and no not remunerate earned, but unused sick leave have higher absence rates.Keywords
