Abstract
Divalent palladium ions are substitutionally incorporated into silver chloride during the melt growth of single crystals. These ions trap holes and/or electrons during exposure. The predominant trapped-electron center, (PdCl6)5−, has an effective depth of 0.61±0.01 eV and a room temperature lifetime of 0.5 msec. A second palladium-based complex, [(PdCl6)4− (Ag+vac)], is believed to trap photoholes above 80°K, but it can be made to behave as a secondary electron trap by cooling below 80°K, the temperature at which self-trapping of the photohole predominates. The room temperature lifetime of [(PdCl6)3− (Ag+vac)] has been calculated to be 1.1 msec from an effective trap depth of 0.57±0.01 eV.Keywords
