The Formation of Indoleacetylaspartic Acid in Pea Seedlings.

Abstract
Indoleacetic acid (IAA) applied to pea epicotyls or roots is partially converted in the tissues to a substance which gives a mauve color with the (acid-FeCl3) Salkowski reagent. This substance yielded IAA and aspartic acid in equimolar amounts on alkaline hydrolysis and had the same Rf value as synthetic indoleacetylaspartic acid on paper chromatography. Indoleacetylaspartic acid had practically no growth activity as measured by the slit pea curvature and elongation test but was as active as IAA on oat coleoptile curvature and elongation.
