Trapped-Particle Stabilization of Localized Interchange Modes in Axisymmetric Toroidal Plasmas

Abstract
A stability criterion for localized modes in an axisymmetric torodial plasma is derived from the kinetic energy principle, taking account of trapped particles. This criterion predicts greater stability than the Mercier criterion.Keywords
