Abstract
The respiration of hepatopancreas suspensions of active and hibernating Helix pomatia was measured. Intermediates of the Krebs cycle increased rate of respiration. While galactose was oxidized by hepatopancreas suspensions from active animals it was not oxidized by suspensions from hibernating snails. Malonate inhibited oxidation of intermediates. The conversions, oxaloacetate + pyruvate [forward arrow]citrate [forward arrow] alpha ketoglutarate [forward arrow]succinate were demonstrated and succin-oxidase and cytochrome oxidase were located intracellularly. There was no increase in phosphorylation during the oxidation of Krebs cycle intermediates. Keywords
