Hyperplastic and Metaplastic Responses of Human Mammary Fibroadenomas and Dysplasias in Organ Culture2

Abstract
Human mammary fibroadenomas and dysplasias were grown in organ culture with and without insulin for up to 20 days. Effective concentrations of insulin produced hyperplastic and squamous metaplastic changes in the epithelium, similar to those which insulin produces in normal tissue. After 15–20 days of culture, some squamous metaplastic growths developed epidermoid features.
