Spleen Adenosine Triphosphatase Activity in Irradiated Mice Treated With Spleen Homogenate

Abstract
Changes in adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activity, spleen weight and leucocyte count were studied in LAf1 mice treated with spleen homogenate after 650 r. Streptomycin (given to both treated and untreated groups) was used to increase survival in the irradiated controls. The duration of spleen involution and high ATPase activity was much shorter, and subsequent hypertrophy and low ATPase activity were less marked in homogenate-treated than in irradiated control mice. There was little change in total spleen ATPase in homogenate-treated mice, while in irradiated controls this was below normal for 3 weeks and higher than normal in the 4th week.
