Abstract
To the Editor: Several authors have suggested that opioid peptides modulate the release of catecholamines from the sympathetic nervous system, inhibiting their output. 1 2 3 This hypothesis stems mainly from in vitro experiments. We recently observed a case supporting a role for opioid receptors in the control of catecholamine secretion from human pheochromocytoma cells in vivo. A 30-year-old patient with crises of hypertension, palpitations, sweating, and dizziness reported that he had experienced similar symptoms in the past and that he had undergone a left adrenalectomy two years before for a documented chromaffin tumor. The patient was normotensive (100/70 mm Hg), and the . . .Keywords
