Abstract
The energy and angular distributions of CD+ formed by the reaction C+(D2, D)CD+ were measured for barycentric energies between 3.47 and 9.14 eV. From the threshold to an energy of 4.4 eV the reaction was found to go through a persistent complex, and at higher energies the reaction proceeded by direct mechanisms. CD+ was detected at energies considerably higher than the critical energy obtainable from the spectator stripping model. Measured values of Q, the difference between the relative kinetic energy of the products and reactants, and available theoretical calculations were used to infer the possible electronic states of the products. Keywords
