Evidence for a Flavoprotein Photoreceptor in Phycomyces

Abstract
It is shown that the flavin inhibitors mepacrine and lumichrome have a greater effect on the growth of illuminated than unilluminated static liquid cultures of Phycomyces. The possible relevance of these findings to our understanding of the mechanism of phototropism is discussed.
