Abstract
A secondary analysis of thirty-eight investigations of teachers' tobacco consumption was carried out in nineteen countries during 1966–1983. Studies are analyzed in terms of smoking behavior, recognition of the non-smoking teacher as a role model, and the extent of their participation in smoking reduction among students and the general population. Non-smokers were found to be more likely to affirm the importance of non-smoking teachers as role models for students. Only a minority of smokers recognized the importance of this role. Keywords
