Adult Adjustment of the Mentally Retarded: Implications for Teacher Education

Abstract
This article briefly reviews the adult adjustment of the educable mentally retarded. The findings suggest that perhaps teacher preparation is less than optimal. A tentative model for the preparation of teachers of secondary level educable mentally retarded children, augmenting subject matter competency with knowledge of the nature and needs of the retarded learner, is proposed.
