Abstract
Gave 40 Ss the dual task of responding to regularly spaced stimuli, and of tapping at a constant rate during the intervals between stimuli. 2 conditions were compared: S reacted to the stimulus and tapped with the same hand, or the tasks were performed bimanually. In the 1st condition the moment-to-moment tapping rate during interstimulus intervals (ISIs) near the end of the series slowed down considerably just before stimulus presentation. Hence, the tapping intervals showed an "expectancy wave" with a period equal to the ISI duration. In the 2nd condition wavelike signal preparations were hardly observable. The tapping strategy is discussed in terms of response and attention limitation. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)Keywords
