Abstract
A field trial with toxic-bait blocks for suppression of subterranean termite activity was initiated in Toronto. Decayed, mirex-impregnated red pine wood blocks 2.5 × 3.8 × 0.5 cm were placed individually in soil at 1.5-m intervals. Attack on bait blocks effectively suppressed termite activity for 3 years in the eight plots. The method offers a cheaper, environmentally sound, effective alternative to conventional soil-poisoning methods. Keywords
