Abstract
Statistical properties of active regions in turbulent velocity fields are examined using the β-model theory. The volume of active regions is shown to increase in time owing to the entrainment of the surrounding non-turbulent fluid. It is pointed out that the determination of the intermittent exponent µ by Fujisaka and Mori (1979) is based on an inconsistent calculation of the steady distribution of the number of the active regions.
