Abstract
A method was presented for estimating quantitatively the severity of illness of patients with acute myocardial infarction on admission to the hospital. A close correlation was noted between the rating and mortality rate. This method might be useful in the design of a controlled expt. in which patients could be paired on the basis of their index, and then assigned at random to treated and controlled groups, rather than the usual method of simple alternation of pairs without regard to severity of illness. Keywords
