Abstract
The behaviors of a plasma channel for transporting intense ion beams by the z-discharge are studied by computer simulation. The z-discharge current reaches 50 kA, which is large enough to confine the beam in the channel. Two kinds of radial motion are induced in the channel; one is an inward pinch motion by the self-magnetic field and the other is an outward expanding motion accompanied by a shock wave. Keywords
