Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present in concise form the status of surgery of the heart and associated great vessels. I do not plan to go into actual details of surgical technic, but rather to give an idea of what can be accomplished by operation in various cardiac conditions. Some of the surgical approaches to problems of heart disease are not new but advances of note have been made in them. A new chapter in surgery is being written in the management of certain congenital diseases of the heart, and is of such importance that it should be forcibly brought to the attention of the profession. The subjects for discussion will be taken up as outlined. Heart Disease
