Hood and Awn Development in Barley Determined by Two Gene Pairs1

Abstract
Synopsis: Crosses were made with short awned varieties ✕ hooded strains resulting in a 2‐factor segregation for hoods, short and long awns, in a 9:4:3 ratio.Double recessive short awned segregates (kk lklk) must be used in crosses to hooded rather than KK lklk genotypes if a 2‐factor segregation is desired.Crosses were then made using long and short awned barley varieties in which occasionally a ratio of 9: hooded: 3 long awned: 4 short awned plants were obtained in the F2 generation.
