Abstract
This case study focuses on the personal development of a low‐income single mother who participated in site‐based, decision‐making processes at an urban elementary school. Participant observation and interview data collected from 1989 to 1992 were examined to reveal the difficulties and positive outcomes for this parent and the school when opportunity and support accompany participation in varied levels of involvement in school activities. Keywords
