Treatment of Depression in Persons Residing in Homes for the Aged

Abstract
An interactive-contact method of alleviating depression in a residential geriatric population is presented. The treatment consisted of establishing physical contact, evoking communication, and initiating the aged person's interaction with his fellow residents. The research findings indicated that the interactive-contact method can significantly effect a reduction in self-reported and observed depression. The implications for extending the use of these techniques in a variety of geriatric settings is discussed.
