Abstract
The 2nd case of solitary mast cell "tumor" of lung is reported. Eighteen mo. after lobectomy the patient showed no local or systemic evidence of mast cell disease. The spectrum of mast cell disease ranged from the familiar and benign urticaria pigmentosa to less common but lethal forms such as mast cell leukemia. The documentation of lung involvement by an isolated mast cell "tumor" filled a niche that had been only reputed until recently. Because of the morphologic and tinctorial similarities between plasma cells and mast cells in tissue when stained routinely, it was suggested that some instances of mast cell "tumor" may be masquerading as "plasmacytoma.".This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
