Abstract
Purified cell walls, prepared from the filamentous and parasitic phases of Histoplasma capsulatum, were analyzed chemically. Analysis of alkali extractable and alkali resistant materials revealed only quantitative differences in polysaccharide content. Glucose was the only neutral hexose associated with these fractions. Hydrolysis of the alkali resistant cell wall material and subsequent amino acid determinations revealed quantitative and qualitative differences. The alkali resistant material of the filamentous phase contains more amino acid material than the yeast phase. The purified cell walls were immunogenic in rabbits. Keywords
