Abstract
Estimated values for the fluorescence yields for various atomic configurations of the carbon atom and the calculated energy shifts of the x rays resulting from these initial configurations are presented. These results are used in conjunction with recent results concerning the probability of multiple ionization as a function of the incident proton energy to give a more detailed analysis of the variable fluorescence yield observed and presented in an earlier publication. Keywords
