Abstract
The association constants of aliphatic amine‐alcohol complexes in carbon tetrachloride solutions are determined by infra‐red spectroscopy. It is shown that, in rough approximation, the difference of free enthalpy corresponding to the hydrogen bondings, are the sum of two terms, one depending only on the donor (the alcohol), and the other depending only on the acceptor (the amine). It is also shown, that the association, like the ionization, is promoted by the substitution of a hydrogen of the amino group by an alkyl radical, and by the exchange possibility of the hydrogens in the complex, although this latter effect is more important in the case of the ionization. Keywords
