Lattice Dynamics of BaPb0.75Bi0.25O3

Abstract
The phonon dispersion curves and the phonon density of states for superconducting BaPb0.75Bi0.25O3 have been measured by neutron scattering. Almost all phonon branches could be mapped out. However, we could not detect the band of `breathing' type vibrations of O octahedra which was expected to show strong coupling to the conduction electrons. Instead, defect type modes are found near 42 meV. These modes are interpreted as local `breathing' type vibrations, associated with static distortions of O octahedra.
