The effect of self-heating on the dynamical response of bolometric detectors

Abstract
An analysis of the thermal response of an electrical resistance thermometer or bolometer is presented which takes into account the thermal feedback produced by Joule self-heating. It is shown that this can lead to significant changes in the gain and bandwidth, particularly in the case of high-sensitivity superconducting transition edge bolometers, and that such changes can be controlled and utilized by appropriate choice of electrical bias network.
