Abstract
The crystal structure of dichloro(tetrahydrogenethylenediaminetetra-acetato)palladium(II) pentahydrate, C10H26Cl2N2O13Pd, has been determined from three-dimensional equi-inclinational Weissenberg X-ray diffraction data with 1067 visually estimated reflections. The tetragonal unit cell, space group P41212, has dimensions a= 10·19(2), c= 21·02(3)Å, with Z= 4. The structure was refined by least squares to R 0·106. The molecule possesses a two-fold axis which passes through palladium bisecting Cl–Pd–Cl and N–Pd–N. The co-ordination of palladium is square planar, and links two nitrogens from the ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid and two chlorine atoms [Pd–N 2·09(2), Pd–Cl 2·30(1)Å; N–Pd–N, 85·1(9)°, Cl–Pd–Cl, 90·7(3)°]. The four planar carboxy-groups of the ligand are not co-ordinated, and make, with the water molecules, a network of hydrogen bonds. The platinum and palladium complexes were shown to be isomorphous.Keywords
