Abstract
On January 25, 1945, the Government of Finland appointed a committee to study the possibilities of reducing and eliminating the noise hazard in work-places. This committee, of which I have been the otologist member, has studied in great detail the conditions of noise to which workers are exposed, the effects of noise on the workers' general health and especially their hearing, and ways and means of preventing the injurious effects of noise. The opinions of experts in Finland and abroad were studied and also the literature in this field. The Committee has now submitted its report to the Ministry for Social Affairs and to it is appended a draft for a Noise Control Act. So far as is known no country has yet such a law. As this proposal will also interest otologists I wish to present it at this course in the hope that, errors and deficiencies may be observed and corrected. Keywords
